Querying – Demystifying The Term

In any business there is a shorthand. Jargon. In the American film industry “querying” is the term applied when a writer tries to solicit a read from pretty much anyone else; manager, agent, producer, etc.

This is no longer done by mail. Some do it by phone, but most of it is done by email in the form of a query letter. If you want someone you’ve never met to read your screenplay, your best shot is pitching it in a query letter.
