I write a script, then I put it aside. A few weeks, maybe a month, in a drawer to incubate. A chance for me to clear my head. And more often than not these days I find myself re-reading these incubated scripts and thinking: Well, this is either brilliant or a huge pile of shit.
Black or white. Exceptional or exceptionally bad. I think it’s the increasingly business-aware side of me. The capitalist duking it out with the creative. Yeah, this is great! I’m happy– But is it gonna sell? Can it get made? Cause if it can’t, it could be Hamlet but it’s not going to make a lick of difference.
Maybe it just means it should go back in the drawer. For a little while longer.
